Orcut in trouble again, court issues notice

October 11, 2006 at 12:26 am 2 comments

The Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to issue notice to Google for the alleged spread of hatred about India by its social network service `Orkut’.

Here is the full article.

This was coming for sure. There are many such hate communities that exist in orcut, and tons of mails and scraps were exchanged, requesting bans on these communities. but nothing has been done so far. i am happy to see some of our concerned citizens finally asking the courts to intervene. Kindly report this to as many you know, and let us build a network of support for fighting such faceless bastards…

Today(11/10/2006), it is frontpage news in the Times of India. Though I agree that such developments are deplorable, I wonder if court intervention in such matters is desirable. It may restrict freedom of speech in the long run. Something like this is bound to happen on something like the internet. Better to counter it with positive groups- Loha lohe ko kaatta hai.

I could be wrong but that is what I currently feel.

Hiren: Ahh. then i was ahead of TOI in that front taking the advantage of internet!! LOL. i agree what u saying. but legal way is atleast peaceful rather than creating unrest and agitations when your sentiments are hurt. hai na??? unlike the violent demonstrations we have seen in the recent past over religious sentiments.. there is a time when you need to show up that one cant be tolerated beyond a limit, or else you’re reduced to a lifeless mass, who dont have a voice of protest let alone the fight.
